I would like those emails to go from Metablogue. You can keep using the general solution but there are problems with it.

First of all, email for MetaBlogue coming from a Gmail address sounds like a spam and many receiving servers will treat it like that.

So if your WordPress installation sending too many emails in short time, Gmail will block them. But that uses the same IP address as your blog and it can become tricky in case some receivers are identifying your email as spam.

Now it does sound a lot but thinks about it, Email Subscriptions usually are managed by the third party. So we will end up using MailChimp or any other provider anyway. AWS SES is a preferred solution in terms of cost of sending emails but if you are running an e-commerce site and want more control on the look and feel of your emails, I have added few additional options which can be used. It gives per month free emails if you are sending them from EC2 instance, but that will not apply for LightSail.

I would prefer to verify the domain so that you will not have any restriction on the email address. By default, SES will add your account to a sandbox and you will not be allowed to send emails to everyone.

You can only send it to the verified domain or email address, you need to raise a service request to raise that limit. AWS support team usually takes a day or two to review and approve the SES email sending limit increase. I prefer creating a user and attaching it with SES permissions. If you receive the email then everything is set up correctly. AWS SES is one of the cost-effective solutions but does not render much control on the looks of the emails. If you are running an e-commerce site, you may want to format your emails so that user can get the required information.

SendInBlue usually used for marketing campaign but they also offer free transactional emails with limits. You can go to SendINBlue to create a new account. Once you have created a new account and verified your email address, you can select between Marketing Campaign or Transactional Emails. They have their own WordPress plugin but I only advise to use it in case you are using it for Marketing Campaign also.

If you see a message that transactional emails are not active then drop an email to their support. You need to let them know what kind of transactional emails you will be sending and they will activate it for you. They usually allow transactional emails per day in their free account, if you need more than that, you can upgrade the plan. Check SendInBlue. They will provide an MX record which can be added to your DNS and they will start catching the emails.

It saves the emails in raw format so they will be really hard to read. It is good only if you have an application to process those raw emails and display. Even after that, you will be paying a charge for S3 usage. You can also use an AWS Lambda function to format and forward that email. We will take a look at it in a different blog post.

Most of the domain name provider give email forwarding service with domain name purchase. I use Namecheap for most of my domain name purchase and they allow to create email address with forwarding enabled.

This means, I can have up to email address on my domain and the emails coming for them will be forwarded accordingly. The only thing you need to make sure is that MX records are setup correctly. I have created a Gmail address and set up email forwarding for my domain email address.

This way even if someone wants to reply to the email, I will still receive it. Just create new records and add the value given by your domain provider, that will create the email forward. A lower number has higher priority: for example '1' has higher priority than '10'. If for some reason a server isn't available, mail is delivered to the server with the next highest priority, and so on down the list.

If your domain host assigns priorities using numbers, choose the lowest number highest priority for ASPMX.

Webmasters Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for pro webmasters. It only takes a minute to sign up. I am using Amazon Route 53 and have a correctly functioning A record pointing to an EC2 instance at mydomain.

My problem is, I tried to setup a Postfix mailserver but I could not receive mail, so I figured my problem is with the MX record since local mail worked.

This is what I have got for my MX record and just wanted to confirm if it is correct, or if it's nonsense:. I have used "titan" because it's the hostname of my server - should I use "mail" instead? I keep seeing this on the web but can't find an explanation of if it's arbitrary. I want the e-mails to work such that user mydomain.

I have looked at this question and this one too, but didn't find an answer in them. I'm afraid I couldn't help you with the complications of setting up a Postfix mailserver, however with regards to your questions about the DNS records:.

I generally set up a sub-domain name, though it is not necessary. The sub-domain name does not matter. I use mail, but titan is perfectly fine. Either way you chose, it does not matter. Next you would set up a MX record to point to titan. The numeric value does not matter when you have only one MX record. Now, before we get too far, you will need an SMTP gateway. Specify additional values as name-value pairs, and separate them with semicolons ;for example:. If a CA receives a request for a certificate for a subdomain such as www. If a record for the parent domain exists and if the certificate request is valid, the CA issues the certificate for the subdomain. Thanks for the easy to understand explanation of MX records. I have a question. I have a limited number of records that I can use through my registrar for a given domain. However, I would like to give each of my family members their own email subdomain with 5 MX records each. For example: joe joe. The question… Is there a way to combine the MX records?

Is there another way to conserve records and still catch the mail for all of the various subdomains? For example. You can have multiple email accounts setup with individual subdomains, using your mail server. That can be setup with your mail server.
